Dear Patron,

As a composer, commissions are one of the most exciting and interesting ways for me to compose a piece! It's always such an adventure to communicate with both the performers and director (or even the commissioner) in order to tailor and craft a piece specifically for the ensemble or occasion. In various ensembles of which I was a member, having a piece commissioned just for our group was also one of the most educational and interesting experiences as a performer. The opportunity to work with a never-performed composition posed challenges and revealed delights, and I feel that I am both a better musician and composer for it. Some of my favorite memories as a performer have undoubtedly been while performing pieces that the world had never heard before — not until the moment of the conductor's downbeat, that is!

In addition to writing music for ensembles, I am very interested to work with poets, librettists, choreographers, or even film-makers and directors. I feel that I am very experienced in collaborating with other artists, and I cherish the opportunity to work alongside them in creating something special.

If you are interested in commissioning a piece from me, please contact me and we can talk about your budget for the commission and my typical costs. If your ensemble does not have the funding for your desired project, let me know and we will try and reach an appropriate compromise. Some more negotiable aspects of the compositions, however, will be the number of performers, the level of difficulty of the piece, or the length of the composition. As I spoke about in the above section, commissioning a work is something that is a very special experience for everyone involved! Please contact me here so that we can further discuss the specifics of your commission! I am excited to work together, and I greatly appreciate your patronage to new music.

All the best,
H.B.H.
